The Story Behind Gudimallam Temple
According to a legend, Sage Jamadagni suspected his wife Renuka of breaking the trust. He asked his son Parashurama to behead her, and Parashurama, obedient but regretful, followed through. Miraculously, he later asked to bring his mother back to life, and it happened.
Parashurama felt truly bad about his actions, so he decided to do penance to make amends. He was told to worship Shiva at Gudimallam. After a search, he found the temple in a forest and made a pond for his rituals. Every morning, a flower would appear, and he offered it to Shiva.
To protect the flower, he assigned Chitrasena, who was actually Lord Brahma in disguise. Chitrasena had a condition he wanted an animal to eat. Parashurama agreed and hunted daily for him.

One day, Chitrasena could not resist using the flower to worship Shiva. This made Parashurama really mad, and they had a big fight. In the middle of the chaos, Lord Shiva appeared, granting their wish to combine with him. The special lingam at Gudimallam represents Brahma as Chitrasena, Vishnu as Parashurama, and Shiva.
