Why is Khatu Shyam Baba’s Birthday Celebrated on Devuthani Ekadashi?

According to religious beliefs, pleased with the great sacrifice of Barbarika (Khatushyam), Lord Krishna granted him a boon.

He prophesied that in Kaliyuga, Barbarika would be worshipped by the name Shyam

Following this prophecy, Barbarika’s head was buried in the Khatu town of the Sikar district in Rajasthan.

Legend has it that a cow used to pour milk at that spot every day. Upon excavation, the head of Khatushyam Ji emerged, and it was entrusted to a Brahmin for a few days.
